Recreating Kylie Jenner's Birthday Makeup Look for Less

I really love this look Hrush Acheyman did on Kylie Jenner for her 18th birthday in 2015! It was very bronze, dark, and dramatic. The skin also looked very luminous and tan. I have also every product (or a very similar), that Hrush used in the look. But, while I was recreating it I realized how many inexpensive products I could use to substitute for the high end ones. So, I decided to make a post in how I recreated the look, and high end + low end products you could use to recreate it!

First I started off by prepping my skin using the Olay daily moisturizer. I have very dry skin so I always use a lot of moisturizer underneath my makeup to prevent flaking. I did this look during the day so the moisturizer did have SPF, but if you're wearing it for a night out, try using something that doesn't contain SPF. This will prevent your face from looking super white and off balance, in flash photographed pictures. After moisturizer I used the Maybelline Master Prime by Face Studio blur+redness control primer. Then, I applied some tape underneath the lash line going up towards by temples to control the direction my eyeshadow goes. Hrush did this on Kylie to give a nice cat eye effect, but I love using it anytime to keep my eye look nice, and angular.

I did the eyes before foundation or anything to prevent any liner, shadow, or mascara from ruining my foundation.

Now you're going to prime your eyes using any primer you'd like. I prefer to use the MAC Pro Longwear concealer to primer my lids! It conceals any discoloration, and works great as a primer. Always be sure to set your eye primer using a skin toned shadow, I ALWAYS, use "Brulee" by Wet'n Wild. This way when I go to blend other shadows onto my lids, they blend nicely without sticking to the primer.

For the rest of the eye, you're going to want to start off with a nice base color in and above the crease. I used the Wet'n Wild eye shadow palette in "Vanity". Hrush used "Java" from ABH. The color I used is a nice toffee/caramel color, contour shade, like Java. I blended it softly above the crease, so the eye wasn't completely flat. Then, using a slightly darker shade, Hrush used "Cinnamon" by ABH, take it right into the crease, below the first shade. This will add more definition, and depth, to the eye. Really the beginning of this whole process, is just layering and blending to get the perfect mixture of colors. We don't want anything to look too harsh, or too light, so we alternate to build the shadow to the perfect mixture! Again Hrush used "Cinnamon" by ABH, but I pulled out my Lorac Pro and used a mixture of "Taupe", and "Sable". For a more inexpensive option, you could use literally any mid-dark brown. I suggest, "To-A-T" by Colourpop, or "Frappe" by Makeup Geek.

Next you're going to either take a smudge, angled, or pencil brush to apply a bit of black along your upper lash line, as well as in the outer corner. For the outer corner, apply just a bit, add more if needed, and blend it out really nicely to where it reaches about 1/4 inwards towards the center of the lid, but not all of the way in. This is what's going to create the liner effect, and with the tape, it is super easy and literally effortless.

At this point, go on to the face, before we finish the eye. So, Hrush applied a bit of Koh Gen Doh Aqua Foundation Illuminator to highlight (strobe) Kylie's cupid's bow, chin, cheek bones, and a bit of her nose. A really great alternative to this is the Loreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer. I've used this for so long and it's a great drugstore product! It is liquid, not thick like other illuminators, and can be used over or underneath foundation. So, just apply this with a damp sponge to keep the dewiness, and go onto foundation.

You can use a brush or beauty blender to apply the foundation. Personally, I like to use both. I first apply with a buffing brush and blend, and then use a blending sponge to soften, further blend, and give a wet/dewy look (if the sponge is wet obviously). Try to avoid the areas you illuminated when applying the foundation, so it does not completely drown it out!

Concealer time! Hrush used the Kevin Aucon concealer, but I refer to always use my Rimmel Wake Me Up for undereyes. It is only about $6 at the drugstore. But, I also love using my Makeup Revolution Ultra Cover and Conceal palette. It has pink toned concealers, yellow toned concealers, and super brightening shades as well.  It also has great coverage, and to me, is great quality for the price of $10.

To contour, Hrush used the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick in "Chestnut", as well as the Chanel Soleil De Tan. An inexpensive alternative both of these are the Maybelline Fit Me sticks. They are super creamy, but not too thick, and they come in a plethora of shades. To contour, apply a darker shade right underneath the cheekbones, in the most hollow area, and use a lighter, tanner shade to blend it out. The tanner shade will act as the Soleil Tan de Chanel. So, we get a nice contour, and flush of warmth. I recently got the Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzer, and I highly recommend you all check it out!

Another duper, I've heard, for the Chanel bronzer is the Bourjois Paris Bronzing Primer. I have never used it, but by the looks it seems to be very similar, and as if it holds the same purpose.

Now for blush....

I think a really matte, muted blush works great with this look. Hrush did two blushes. She used a orangey tone to "amplify" the other blush atop. I love MAC Cosmetic's "Cubic". Or a drugstore option, the Palladio Matte blushes in "Toasted Apricot", and "Peach Ice", are great. Or, even check out the Makeup Revolution Blush Palette. I promise I'm not sponsored by MR, I honestly love their products! And they are really the only blushes I use right now! After the first blush use a nice pop of pink. My favorite pink blushes are "Pink Passion" by ELF, and Milani Powder Blush in "Tea Rose". The two Hrush used were Anastasia's "L'Orange", and the Japonesque blush no.3.

Go ahead and set your foundation and concealer with your powder or choice at this point, and head back to the eyes.

For the lid shade, you're gonna need an a very metallic, bronzed shade. Kylie's makeup artist used "Game Face" Super Shock Shadow by Colourpop, which is only $5! I sadly do not have that shade, so I just used my Lorac Pro Palette shadow in "Gold". But, I think any metallic, gold, bronzed shadow will look great!

Lastly smudge and blend the shadows we used in the crease earlier, then some black liner in the waterline, and finish off with your favorite mascara. And, of course, pop on some faux lashes if you'd like! I think any long, slightly thin at the base, falsies will look great. I think if the lashes were too thick, you wouldn't be able to see the full eye makeup.

And here we are, your look should look a little something like this!

I hope whoever is still reading all the way down here enjoyed this post, and found it useful!
I'll talk to you guys next time! Bye bye. xx

P.S.- for her lips it was not mentioned what she used, but I believe it was her liquid lipstick in "Candy K".
